It’s off to the races for Pittsburgh residents! If you like walking or running, you can participate in one of the area’s races. Check out some of the biggest races coming to town. Be sure to register so you’ll be able to take part in the race of your choice.
Dick’s Pittsburgh Marathon
Dick’s Pittsburgh Marathon is one of the top races around. The marathon takes place on May 7th at 7 AM. That gives you a little time left to train for the marathon. If you run, you will go right past the homes of some prominent Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Don’t spend too much time looking at the homes, though. You can win a prize if you finish in the top three for your category, so you need to concentrate on the race. Even if you don’t place, though, you will receive a finisher medal as long as you make it across the finishing line.
There is an after party at the Barrelhouse. Runners will get a free Bloody Mary or Boozy Shake. That will give you so something to strive for as you passone-milee marker after the next.
Pittsburgh Pet Walk
Do you prefer a slower pace? If so, you can sign up for the Pittsburgh Pet Walk. This is part of the marathon weekend, and it takes place on May 6 at noon. You will start at Point State Park downtown. You will have the chance to win an award for cutest pet, pet/owner look-alike, and best costume.
UPMC Health Plan/UMPC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5k Run
This 5k run also takes place during marathon weekend. It starts at 8 AM on May 6th, and is perfect for people who want to participate in the marathon weekend but don’t want to complete an entire marathon. It begins on the North Shore and finishes downtown. You can run or walk at your own pace if you enter. Just have some fun with your friends.
While you need to spend some time getting ready for these races, you can’t live on your feet. You will need a vehicle from time to time, even if you’re in training. Visit Dean Honda in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to get the perfect vehicle for you. Then, you can jump into your car or truck after the race.
